Explosion box Technique
Hello everyone! If you

blog, you are in the right place :) The Hens’ Den Design Team is excited
to present fun techniques this week to celebrate freedom. I do, however, want to take a minute to thank all the military men
and women along their families for the dedication and sacrifice they provide us
every day in order to keep us all safe and sound.
My technique is new to me
because it is something I have been wanting to try for some time but never gave it a chance
until now; I love doing new things and being a part of this team has really
helped me step out of that box and experiment, which has been so fun. I
have prepared an explosion
box.

Before I start with my
tutorial, let's go over the blog hop details first:

3 - HAVE FUN !!!!

Okay, now to my project.
I started off with 3 sheets of 12x12 cardstock in red, white and
blue.
Take the white and blue cardstock and cut as follows: white -
11 ¾ x 11 ¾ and blue - 11 ½ x 11 ½. You then need to score at 4 inches on
each side – you will do this for each sheet.
Fold the score lines and cut
each corner to where it looks like you have a lower case t in red, white and
blue order. I rounded the corners, but that is a personal preference.
Set that aside to make the top.
You start the lid off with a
7 1/8 x 7 1/8 square, then score at 1 ½ inch on each side. Fold the score
line and then cut up to the corner of the middle square (DO NOT CUT THE ENTIRE
CORNER).
After you have cut the
corners, you will then need to tuck in the cut corner to match up with
the other side closest to it. Glue those tabs and secure with paperclips
until dry.
Now the fun begins :) Decorate.
I decided to
cover each section in its entirety, but I have seen it where it is cut into
smaller squares and put down like a mat. I am giving this as a gift, so
I didn't put down any photos, but there are plenty of places to do
so. The middle of the box was a challenge because
I couldn't find the exploding fireworks decorations (like the ones you see at a birthday party) anywhere, so I looked through the paper we had in the kit
and found the two awards decorations, which I think has worked out great.
I cut them out, taped the top
together, folded it so it would stand and then glued the pointed parts of the
ribbons to the bottom. I also cut between the ribbons lines and curved them out a little to give it dimension. Rest assured, this ribbon is stuck - I have turned it upside down, jiggled it and it is staying put :) - very thankful for Tombow Mono Liquid Glue.

When Charlie at The Hens Den asked us last month what kit we would like to work with this month, I spent about 2 hours trying to figure it out because she has such great products in the store. I eventually decided to use Prima Marketing Lyric Collection. I hadn't worked with this collection before and am so glad I picked it because it is so beautiful and the colors are so gorgeous. 
I went in search of another sketch because I have come to the conclusion that I seem to have great mojo when I use them :) This sketch is from Pals Paper Arts, which is new to me, but will tell that I'll be back often.
I created a card using this wonderful collection for a get well soon card for my friend who is going through chemotherapy to help rid her of the pancreatic cancer she has. She is doing well and is looking great, but the best thing is her spirits are still up.
